The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes battled to a hard-fought 53-50 win over the St. Anthony Bulldogs at J.H. Griffym Gym Thursday in boys basketball. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com
Teutopolis led the vast majority of the game, but never by more than eight points and usually by less than that. St. Anthony had a very early two-point lead and took a one-point lead in the fourth quarter. Teutopolis led at all the stops; 16-13 after one quarter, 26-24 at halftime, and 36-35 after three quarters before outscoring St. Anthony 17-15 in the fourth quarter to win by three.
Teutopolis shot 44% from the field, 18 of 41, including 7 of 14 threes, and went 10-for-10 at the foul line. The Shoes pulled down 28 rebounds and turned the ball over 16 times.
St. Anthony shot 51% from the field, 22 of 43, including 5 of 11 threes, went to the line just four times and made just one. St. Anthony committed just nine turnovers, but only grabbed 19 rebounds.
Evan Wermert led Teutopolis and all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds. Max Niebrugge scored 12 points and also grabbed seven boards. Also for Teutopolis: Jordan Hardiek 8, Matthew Deters 6, Evan Addis 4, Brendan Niebrugge 3, and Caleb Siemer 2.
Seth Hotze topped St. Anthony scorers with 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Logan Antrim and Craig Croy each scored 10 points. Also for St. Anthony: Kennan Walsh 8, and Grant Nuxoll 6.
Teutopolis improved to 9-4 on the season, while St. Anthony is now 9-3.
Teutopolis won the JV game 49-31. Pruemer with 11 and Siemer with 10 led the JV Shoes. Kyle Stewart led the JV Bulldogs with 14 points.

South Central 50, Neoga 34
South Central tallied a 50-34 victory over Neoga as two National Trail Conference teams squared off Thursday.
The Cougars' Watwood led off with a seven-point opening quarter as South Central moved ahead 13-2. South Central led 26-14 at halftime. Neoga's Paci McClure connected on two three-pointers.
South Central was hitting the free thorws with six of six by halftime and 14 of 16 in the second half. Collin Miller scored eight in the third quarter and eight more in the final period.
Miller finished with 18 on three field goals and 12 of 12 at the line. Also in double figures were Watwood with 13 and Keenin Willshire with 10. South Central connected on 14 field goals that included two three-pointers and were 20 of 22 at the line.
The Cougars improved to 4-3 in the National Trail Conference and 8-3 overall and will play Ramsey today.
Neoga was led by Paci McClure with 10 on three field goals that included two three-pointers and was two of six at the line. The Indians connected on only four of 14 free throws.

The Rams took an 18-3 opening quarter lead and never looked back.
Shelbyville had two players in double figures. Kade Kull led the way with 19 points while Max Beyers added 17.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Jadon Robertson with 16 points.
