Dieterich's Dalton Hinterscher finished third in the 1A King of the Hill competition at the boys state tournament in Peoria Friday.

Hinterscher, who had hit 13 threes Thursday to advance to the finals, made eight threes on Friday, good enough for third place behind Brenden Dauphin of Hanover River Ridge, who made 11 threes, and Jayson Hapeman of Woodlawn who made 10.  Jamie Cousins of Sciota West Prairie finished fourth, making five threes.

In 3A Sectional competition Friday, Effingham's Hunter Keith did not advance to the state finals.  Keith shot at the Mascoutah Sectional championship game.

Those from the region who did advance to the 3A state tournament are Chance Madden of Olney East Richland, Grant Speer of Mattoon and Brody Rothrock of Mt. Zion.
