CLASS 1A ALTAMONT SECTIONAL

Oblong edged Woodlawn in the opening game of the Altamont Sectional Tuesday evening, 64-60.

Oblong jumped out to a 19-11 opening quarter lead as Jared Mayhew went on a tear, scoring four field goals and two of three at the line for 10 points while Collin Meese knocked in a three-pointer and another basket for five points.

Woodlawn came back with a 16-12 second period run as Gabe Owens hit two trifectas and two free throws. The Cardinals pulled within 31-27 at halftime.

Oblong then had another big scoring quarter with a 14-8 run in the third period to lead by 10 going into the final quarter. The Panthers would need every part of that 10 point lead as Woodlawn came back with a 25-19 run but fell short.

Anthony Johnson tallied 17 to lead the winners. Johnson only had seven points going into the final period then stepped to the free throw line knocking in 10 of 12. Also in double figures were Meese with 14 and Richardson with 12.

Woodlawn was led by Gabe Owens with 19, K. Harlow with 11 and Kennedy with 10.

In tonight's action at Altamont, North Clay (Louisville) takes on Nokomis at 7:30 p.m. The winner advances to meet Oblong at 7:30 p.m. Friday for the sectional championship.
