Mark Tovey is being replaced as boys basketball coach at St. Anthony High School.
The St. Anthony administration released a statement Friday saying the decision comes as part of a reorganization of teaching staff and positions being consolidated at the high school. As a result of the moves, a teaching position was eliminated as of the end of the school year.
The statement reads, "We've also decided to go in a different direction with the basketball position. We'd like to thank Coach Tovey for his contributions to St. Anthony the past three years and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."
St. Anthony finished 23-6 in Tovey's first season, but slipped to 19-11 last season, the first time in 17 seasons the Bulldogs finished with fewer than 20 wins. During the season just completed, the Bulldogs finished 11-19, the most losses in St. Anthony history.
The administration indicated that Tovey will finish out the school year as a teacher, and that it's hoped a new coach will be in place in mid-April.
