NEOGA -- Neoga High School claimed two victories during boys high school basketball weekend action.

 

In a Friday contest, the Indians downed Shelbyville, 63-59. Neoga held an 18-16 opening quarter lead but trailed 32-25 at halftime and 42-40 going into the final period. From there, Neoga came to life with a 23-17 run to pull out the victory.

Trevor Roy provided the opening quarter run with 16 of his team's 18 points then had a 12 point final period and finished with 33. Paci McClure scored seven points in the first three quarters then went on a 10 point tear in the final period to finish with 17.

In the Saturday contest, Neoga was a 58-48 winner over Cumberland.

The Indians held a 13-12 opening quarter lead but Cumberland came back to lead 27-25 at halftime. Neoga connected on two three-pointers and outscored the Pirates 14-6 in the third period to lead by six going into the final quarter. Neoga then had a 21-15 final period.

Roy tallied 21 for the winners while McClure added 14 and Chase Banning 10.

Cumberland was led by Ross Hemmen with 24.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg played host to Okaw Valley and fell, 47-30 in a non-conference matchup Friday.

The Hatchets took a 9-7 opening quarter lead but Okaw Valley had a 19-5 second period and never looked back.

WSS was led by Samuel Vonderheide with 13 points. The Hatchets drop to 8-8 on the season. Okaw Valley improved to 8-6.

At Altamont

The homestanding Altamont Indians pounced on Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran for a 60-33 non-conference win Saturday.

The Indians trailed CORL 10-6 after the opening quarter but came back for an 18-12 halftime lead. The Indians then went on a 37-31 second half for the victory.

Jarod Kollman tallied 15 for the winners, eight coming in the final period, 13 in the second half. Kaden Eirhart chipped in with 13.

In junior varsity action, Altamont was a 53-28 winner. Schultz tallied 14 and Klimpel 13 for the winners.

North Clay Shootout

Eight games were contested at the North Clay Shootout Saturday.

In the opener, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Sandoval, 48-35.

Grayville downed Ramsey, 66-57 in the second contest. The third game went to Cisne over Mulberry Grove, 42-31.

Edwards County (Albion) then edged Dieterich, 36-33.

Edwards County edged ahead 8-7 in the opening quarter but the score was tied at 15-15 at halftime and 26-26 going into the final period.

Edwards County then had a 10-7 final quarter to pull out the victory.

The Movin' Maroons were led by Cole NIebrugge with 10 points.

In the fifth game, Lawrencveille won over Odin, 54-45. Game six went to Metro-East Lutheran over Wayne City, 54-43.

Flora then defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown, 64-43. SEB held a 9-7 opening quarter lead but the Wolves came back with a 20-13 second period to lead at halftime.

Flora continued its scoring with a 20-7 third period. SEB made a comeback bid in the final period only to fall short.

Two players scored in double figures for SEB, Bryton Pruett with 14 and Andy Goldsborough with 10. Goldsborough led in rebounds with four, assists with three and steals with two. Pruett also had three assists. 

In the final game of the shootout, North Clay pounced on Webber Township (Bluford) and won 73-29.

The Cardinals ran off to a 22-2 first quarter lead and the game was never in doubt.

Three players hit double figures for North Clay. Luke Fleener led the way with 19 points while Tyson Jones added 15 and Ethan Bible 13. Jones and Logan Fleener had two three-pointers each.
