Schuette Reaches 1,000-Point Mark on Senior Night; Hearts Win Apollo Outright; Other Friday Night Basketball Results

The Casey-Westfield Warriors downed the St. Anthony Bulldogs 74-61 in high school basketball action Friday before a Senior Night crowd at the Enlow Center.  The contest was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. 

The game started well for the Bulldogs as they pulled out to an eight-point first quarter lead, but the Warriors' relentless three-point attack allowed them to move ahead 19-17 at the end of the period.  Casey-Westfield was up 41-33 at halftime and 58-44 after three quarters before St. Anthony outscored the Warriors 17-16 in the final period.

Casey-Westfield made 54% of its shots from the field, 27 of 50, and also hit 12 of 14 foul shots.  The Warriors turned the ball over 16 times and grabbed 25 rebounds while making eight of 20 three-point tries.

The Bulldogs made 46% of its shots, 26 of 56, and made seven of 12 from the line.  St. Anthony committed 12 turnovers, but just five in the second half and only one in the fourth quarter.  St. Anthony grabbed 23 rebounds and made two of seven three-point attempts.

The Bulldogs were paced by Jacob Schuette, who scored 25 points including his 1,000th career point.  Schuette is at 1,009 points heading into the post-season.  Neil Williams scored 11 points for the Bulldogs and Charlie Schultz scored 10 points and racked up 10 assists.  Also for St. Anthony: Zach Gardewine five, Jason Vogel four, and Alex Hoelscher, Connor Greene and Derek Rios two each.

Brandon Wolfe with 22 and Trivette Scales with 20 points led the Casey-Westfield attack while Zack Murphy added 17 points and Matt McCown 10 points.

St. Anthony finished the regular season with an 11-18 record while Casey-Westfield heads into the post-season with a 19-6 mark.

The Bulldogs honored senior band members, cheerleaders and Bellettes as well as senior basketball players Jacob Schuette, Charlie Schultz, Jason Vogel, Patrick Martelli and Logan Rogers.

A one-minute collection between the first and second quarters by St. Anthony graduates attending Lakeview School of Nursing raised $758 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Casey-Westfield won the JV game 51-44.  Matt Gibson scored 11 points for the JV Bulldogs while Nick Grunloh and Derek Rios added nine points each in the final JV contest of the season.
