Effingham fell to Taylorville in eighth-grade girls basketball competition Thursday.

Taylorville held a 22-13 halftime lead, but the Mustangs came back strong in the second half to pull within 32-30.

Olivia Moser led Effingham with 14 points while Rylea Hodge added nine. The Mustangs drop to 0-3.

At St. Anthony

Charleston came calling and won over Effingham St. Anthony in both seventh and eighth grade play Thursday.

Charleston captured the seventh-grade contest, 29-24 in overtime. The Bullpups took a 4-0 opening quarter lead but Charleston came back to tie the score at halftime, 10-10. Charleston then moved ahead 19-14 in the third quarter but the Bullpups tied the game at 22-22 sending it into overtime. In that period, Charleston had a 7-3 run for the win.

St. Anthony was led by Rios with eight points and Soltwedel with seven.

The Bullpups then fell in the eighth-grade contest, 31-23. Charleston took a four-point lead at halftime then had a 13-9 second half run.

St. Anthony was led by Maddie Kibler with eight points.

At Cowden

Sigel St. Michael handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a loss in both seventh and eighth grade action Thursday.

The Sharpshooters won the seventh-grade contest, 22-11. CHBC held a 9-6 halftime lead but St. Michael came back with an 8-0 third period and never looked back.

Osborn tallied 12 for the winners. CHBC was led by Ellie Miller with four. CHBC drops to 4-3.

In eighth-grade play, St. Michael was a 33-21 winner. The Sharpshooters held a one-point halftime lead then had an 8-2 third period and a 9-4 final quarter.

Hotze scored 14 for the winners while Hatton added nine. CHBC was led by Ruby Stuckemeyer with 12. CHBS falls to 4-3.

At Cowden

At Dieterich

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor tallied two wins over Dieterich Thursday.

Stew-Stras/Windsor edged Dieterich 17-13 in seventh-grade play. Both teams were scoreless in the opening quarter before Stew-Stras/Windsor took an 8-2 lead. VonBehrens led the winners with eight points. Goebel led Dieterich with five.

Stew-Stras/Windsor then won the eighth-grade contest, 49-25. Stew-Stras/Windsor stepped out to a 26-14 halftime lead. Kinkelaar led the way with 24 points while Vonderheide chipped in with 13. SSW improved to 4-2 in both seventh and eighth grade action.

Britton led Dieterich with eight.

At Louisville

Altamont picked up two victories over North Clay (Louisville) Thursday.

Altamont won the seventh-grade contest, 31-10. Alamont pushed out to a 17-2 first half lead and that was the game. Leading the winners was Skylie Klein with 12 points.

North Clay was led by Mallory Boose with four.

In eighth-grade action, Altamont held on for a 44-32 win over North Clay. Altamont led 11-4 after the opening quarter and 25-6 at halftime. North Clay then outscored Altamont 26-19 in the second half.

Altamont was led by Grace Nelson with 25 points and Claire Boehm with 12.

North Clay was led by Miah Ballard with 14 points and Alexis VanDyke with 10.

At Louisville
