Brownstown Nabs Regular Season Win; MTC Tourney Roundup

BROWNSTOWN -- Brownstown High School's Jacob Behrends and Matt Sefton were the one-two scoring punch leading the Bombers to a 72-64 regular season boys basketball victory over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Thursday evening.

Behrends tallied 33 and Sefton 25 for the winners. Behrends connected on nine field goals, including four three-pointers, and was three of four at the line. Sefton hit five field goals, including four from trifecta land, and was a perfect 11 of 11 at the free throw line.

The Bombers held a 32-29 halftime lead and a 50-48 lead going into the final quarter. Brownstown hit eight of 10 free throws and two three-pointers to pull out the victory.

Midland Trail Conference Tournament

Woodlawn and Cisne advanced to the championship game of the Midland Trail Conference Tournament Thursday evening with victories.

Woodlawn won over Odin 74-43 while Cisne edged Waltonville 46-45. In the other game Thursday, Grayville claimed ninth-place with a 36-34 overtime victory over Wayne City.

Tonight's games will feature North Clay (Louisville) against Clay City at 6:30 p.m. for the consolation championship and Odin taking on Waltonville at 8 p.m. for third place. The championship game between Woodlawn and Cisne will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Nashville Tournament

Two games were played in the consolation bracket of the Nashville Tournament.

Nashville defeated Trenton Wesclin 51-39 in the opening game followed by Mascoutah edging Freeburg 50-47.

The tournament will continue tonight with Waterloo Gibault taking on Breese Mater  Dei at 6:30 p.m. followed by  Teutopolis against Breese Central at 8 p.m. The winners advance to the championship Saturday at 8 p.m. while the losers will square off for third place Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
