C'land Fourth, S.C. Fifth At Vandalia, WSS Third at Tri-County

VANDALIA -- Cumberland High School captured fourth place while South Central was fifth at the Vandalia Hoilday Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.

Shelbyville nabbed the championship with a 62-61 win over Vandalia.

The third place contest went to Meridian over Cumberland, 77-59. Meridian took a 17-13 opening quarter lead and led by four at halftime 34-30. Meridian was in charge the rest of the way.

Cumberland was led by Zach Wolke with 19 while Ross Hemmen and Gabe Hatfill had 11 each.

In a Friday game, Shelbvyille downed Cumberland 70-63 in overtime. In that contest, Wolke tallied 38, hitting five field goals and 13 of 15 at the line while Brennyn Cutts added 12.

The fifth place game was claimed by South Central with a 44-32 win over Flora.

The Cougars were led by Logan Lotz with 24.

In a Friday contest, South Central downed Glen Carbon Father McGivney 48-40. The Cougars held a 30-16 haltime lead and that was the game.

Hunter Brandt led the winners with 27 points.

Seventh place went to Pana over Okaw Valley 71-47 while Patoka finished ninth with a 48-27 win over Father McGivney.

In other Friday contests, Flora downed Patoka 56-40, Pana won over Patoka 74-48, Okaw Valley beat Father McGivney 48-29 and Vandalia tallied a 90-77 win over Meridian.

Named Most Valuable Player of the tournament was Macolm Miller of Shelbyville.

All-Tournament Team members were Zach Wolke (Cumberland), Brennyn Cutts (Cumberland), Logan Lotz (South Central), Kade Kull (Shelbyville), Blake Morrison (Vandalia), Blake Barth (Vandalia), Jacob Jones (Meridian), Garrett Meisenhelter (Meridian) and Nick Schafer (Flora).

Tri-County Tournament

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg captured third place at the Tri-County Holdiay Tournament Saturday.

The Hatchets edged host Tri-County, 55-54. WSS went out to a 21-9 opening quarter lead and led 38-21 at halftime. Tri-County made a 20-8 final quarter run but WSS held on.

Three players hit double figures for the Hatchets, Jackson Miller had 17 while Beau Bennett added 13 and Clay Tabbert 12. WSS is now 10-6 on the season.

Beau Bennett was named to the All-Tournament Team while Jackson Miller was named Most Valuable Player.

In Friday games, Paris edged WSS 41-40. The Tigers held a 23-20 halftime lead and led 33-31 going into the final quarter. WSS couldn't get over the hump.

Miller scored 15 for the Hatchets.

In the second game Friday, WSS claimed a 59-37 win over Martinsville. The Hatchets leaped out to a 25-15 halftime lead and had a 14-7 third period.

Miller scored 24 for the winners, hitting six three-pointers, while Wyatt Smith scored 11 and Tabbert 10.
