Cumberland Nabs Victory, S.C. Suffers Losses At Vandalia

VANDALIA -- Cumberland picked up a victory in the Vandalia Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament Wednesday while South Central suffered two losses.

 

The Pirates defeated Pana, 82-65. Zach Wolke tallied 26 points to lead the Pirates who ran off to a 24-11 opening quarter lead.

Also in double figures were Brennyn Cutts with 25 and Myles Gerhardt with 11. The Pirates are back in action today, taking on Patoka at 12:30 and Flora at 6:30.

South Central fell to Meridian, 65-56. Meridian held a 28-24 halftime lead then had a 36-32 second half.

The Cougars were led by three players in double figures. Hunter Brandt tallied 17 while Logan Lotz added 15 and Collin Miller 11.

In the final game of the evening, the Cougars lost to Vandalia, 70-63. The Vandals led by one after the opening quarter before South Central took a 42-33 halftime lead. The Vandals came back with a 23-8 third quarter and that was the game.

Brandt again led the way with 16 while Lotz added 12, Miller 11 and Daniel Roberts 10.

The Cougars are 6-6 on the season and will compete against Okaw Valley at 3:30 today.

In other scores, Shelbyville downed Patoka 75-31, Vandalia won over Okaw Valley 57-53, Shelbyville downed Flora 51-39 and Meridian defeated Father McGivney 63-52.
