MARSHALL -- Effingham Junior High School fell to Marshall in seventh-grade boys basketball action Thursday evening, 38-21.

Marshall held a 25-12 halftime lead. Fox and Raddatz scored five each for the Mustangs.

In the eighth-grade contest, the Mustangs claimed a 47-25 victory. EJHS led 28-12 at halftime and improved to 13-3.

Estrada tallied 13 points while Wolfe added 12 and Westendorf 10. Estrada and Westendorf had three steals each. McWhorter led in rebounds with four.

At Altamont

Altamont Lutheran and Newton St. Thomas split victories Thursday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, St. Thomas edged Altamont Lutheran, 34-31.

ALIS held a 13-11 opening quarter lead and led 20-15 at halftime. St. Thomas started a comeback in the thrid quarter with a 9-7 run but ALIS still held a 27-24 lead going into the final period. St. Thomas then had a 10-4 run to pull out the victory.

Weber tallied 12 for the winners while Bergbower added eight.

ALIS was led by Aden McManaway with 13 and Dillon Elam with 10. It was the first loss for ALIS which drops to 13-1 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, Altamont Lutheran edged out to a 12-11 opening quarter lead and then outscored St. Thomas 47-19 over the next three quarters for a 59-30 victory.

Four players hit the double digit mark for the winners. Avery Jahraus led the way with 15 while Logan Cornett and Nathan Shepard added 11 each and Mason Robinson scored 10. ALIS is now 15-1 on the season.

St. Thomas was led by L. Weber with nine.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City picked up two victories over Okaw Valley Thursday evening.

CHBC won the seventh-grade contest, 38-28. CHBC took an 18-12 halftime lead. The score was tied at 23-23 heading into the final quarter when CHBC had a 15-5 run.

Carson Evans tallied 13 and Claytion Wojcik 12.

In eighth-grade action, CHBC was a 51 20 winner. CHBC took a 29-4 halftime lead and that was the game.

Trevor Theis scored 24 for the winners.
