Effingham St. Anthony and Olney split wins in girls junior high basketball competition Thursday.

The Bullpups fell in seventh-grade play, 32-16. Olney took a 9-6 halftime lead then had a 23-10 second half.

St. Anthony was led by H. Niebrugge with seven points.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony picked up a 45-31 win. The Bullpups led 25-6 at halftime and the game was over from that point on.

St. Anthony had 11 players score in the contest led by Faber with 10 and Schwing with eight.

At Summerville

Effingham picked up two victories at Summerville Thursday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade game over Wayne City, 36-16. Boone tallied eight while Hodge added seven for the winners who improve to 11-4.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham was a 41-37 winner over St. Mary's.

The Mustangs held a six-point lead at halftime then had to hold off St. Mary's to pull out the win.

Madison Mapes and Marissa Allie had eight points each for the Mustangs.

At Newton

Altamont split wins with Jasper County in action Thursday evening.

Jasper County claimed the seventh-grade game, 26-23. Altamont took an 11-9 first half lead and led 19-17 going into the final period. Jasper County then had a 9-4 final period to pull out the win.

Schafer led Jasper County with nine points. Altamont was led by Grace Nelson with 12.

In eighth-grade action, Altamont picked up a 34-24 win. Altamont held an 18-12 lead then had an 11-4 third quarter.

Altamont was led by Kalliana Becker with 15 points. Jasper County was led by Utley, Kocher and Oldham with six each.

At Brownstown

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Brownstown/St. Elmo were each winners in action Thursday evening.

BSE took the seventh-grade game, 26-13. Leading by two at halftime, BSE then went on a 15-4 second half run.

Seabaugh tallied 11 for the winners. Shae Nohren scored six for CHBC.

In the eighth-grade contest, CHBC edged BSE, 32-30. The score was tied at 18-18 at halftime before CHBC had a 10-4 third period and held on for the win.

Gracie Heckert led the way for the winners with 18 points. Baldridge and McWhorter tallied eight each for BSE.
