Junior High Boys Basketball -- January 12 Results

Effingham handed Casey-Westfield two losses in junior high boys basketball action Saturday.

In the seventh-grade game, 10 players reached the scoring column as the Mustangs won 44-14. Effingham improves to 12-2 on the season. The Mustangs were led by Adam Levitt with 11 points and Mason Hull with eight. Terrence Hill came off the bench to lead the team in rebounding with seven.

Effingham is back in action Thursday against Teutopolis in A and B competition.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham was a 48-26 winner. The Mustangs held an 18-10 halftime lead then had a 30-16 second half run. Wolfe tallied 15 while Beals added 13 and Donaldson 12. Donaldson led in rebounds with eight. Wolfe led the team in steals with two.

The Mustangs improve to 16-1 on the season and is back in action today at the Greenville Tournament.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Mount Vernon Saturday. In seventh-grade action, T-town jumped out to a 31-15 halftime lead and never looked back.

Collin Funneman tallied 14 and Lee Hardiek 11 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade contest, Teutopolis won 35-16. The Wooden Booties led 18-12 at halftime then had a 12-2 third period run. Blake Mette led T-town with nine points. T-town is back in action today at Monticello.

NATIONAL TRAIL CONFERENCE EIGHTH-GRADE TOURNAMENT

Altamont, Beecher City and St. Elmo/Brownstown were winners Saturday in National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Tournament play.

Altamont defeated Dieterich 49-11. D. Miller tallied 12 for the winners. Thoele led Dieterich with three.

Beecher City handed Effingham Sacred Heart a 46-39 loss. Beecher City held a 20-14 halftime lead. The score was tied at 37-37 after four quarters and Beecher City outscored the Shamrocks 9-2 in overtime.

Grove scored 21 points for the winners and Strauch chipped in with 18. Smith tallied 11 for Sacred Heart.

In the final game of the day, St. Elmo/Brownstown beat Windsor 36-14. St. Elmo/Brownstown opened up an 18-4 halftime lead. Feezel scored 14 for the winners. Windsor was led by Bennett with four.

In Friday action, Dieterich went overtime to beat Neoga 30-27. Kuhl scored 13 for the winners. Moran led Neoga with 16.

In the second game, Cowden-Herrick defeated Stewardson-Strasburg 32-25. Blackerby tallied 16 for the winners. Overbeck led Stew-Stras with 13.
