Olney Wins Mattoon Girls Title; T-town F/S Claim Win; T-town Varsity Third

MATTOON -- Olney claimed the championship of the Mattoon Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Tigers handed Salem an 80-73 loss for the title. In the third place contest, Mahomet-Seymour defeated Mattoon 51-39.

St. Anthony defeated Decatur MacArthur 44-24 in Friday action. The Bulldogs played for fifth place Saturday and downed Vandalia 48-36 to claim that title. No other information was provided on this game.

St. Anthony's Makayla Walsh earned All-Tournament honors. Kelsey Shipman (Olney) was named Most Valuable Player. Other members of the team were Amber Bruno (Vandalia), Maggie Schmidt (Mahomet-Seymour), Kyla Cook (Salem), Marley Miller (Olney), Kristen Belya (Mahomet-Seymour), Morgan Hawkins (Salem), Megan Godoyo (Vandalia) and Sammy Thompson (Mattoon).

Edwardsville Tournament

Teutopolis High School edged Champaign Central 36-33 in the Edwardsville third place contest Friday.

The championship went to Edwardsville over Chatham Glenwood 71-30. Fifth place went to Jacksonville over Rockford Auburn 42-36 and seventh place was captured by Minooka over McCluer North 54-24.

Okaw Valley Tournament

The Teutopolis freshman/sophomore squad competed in the Okaw Valley Tournament and downed Heritage 54-27 in Saturday action.

T-town took a 24-11 halftime lead and outscored Heritage 30-16 in the second half. The Wooden Shoes were led by Jenny McMahon with 16 points. She was the lone Shoe player in double figures.
