SIGEL -- St. Elmo/Brownstown and North Clay (Louisville) claimed victories in consolation round action at the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

St. Elmo/Brownstown downed Effingham Sacred Heart 34-23. The Shamrocks held a 6-2 opening quarter lead and led 11-10 at halftime. SEB came back with a 13-7 third period and otuscored the Shamrocks 11-5 in the final quarter.

SEB was led by Campbell with 15 points. Sacred Heart was led by Tegeler with eight.

In the second contest, North Clay (Louisville) won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 40-33.

CHBC led 8-7 after the opening quarter and 17-12 at halftime. North Clay had an 11-4 third period run and didn't look back.

Logan Fleener scored 12 and Levi Smith 11 for the winners. Trevor Theis scored 12 for CHBC.

St. Elmo/Brownstown will now face North Clay at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for the consolation championship.

Tonight's winner bracket games feature Stewardson-Strasburg against Dieterich at 6:15 followed by South Central taking on Altamont at 7:30.

At Centralia

Effingham split with Centralia in seventh and eighth grade action Monday evening.

In seventh-grade play, the Mustangs were 46-34 winners. Effingham took a 25-17 halftime lead and then had a slight 21-17 second half.

Donaldson tallied 12 for the winners while Wolfe and Estrada added 10 each. EJHS is now 9-1 on the season.

In eighth-grade action, Centralia picked up a 51-22 victory. Centralia held a 35-12 hafltime lead.

Joe Matteson led the Mustangs with 12 points.

At Newton

Jasper County bounced Red Hill (Bridgeport) in both seventh and eighth grade contests Monday.

In the seventh-grade game, Jasper County won 43-15. Mahaffey tallied 10 poitns for the winners who iprove to 3-7.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County was a 52-8 winner, taking a 24-2 opening quarter lead. Schafer scored 18 and Koebele tallied 11. Jasper County is 6-6.
