BROWNSTOWN -- Brownstown/St. Elmo captured the championship of the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

BSE defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the championship game 35-25. BSE edged out to a 6-5 opening quarter lead and held a 17-15 halftime tally. BSE then took a 13-5 third period and that was the game as CHBC couldn't come back.

Baldridge tallied 12 and McWhorter 11 for the winners.

CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert with 10.

In consolation bracket action Friday, Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor defeated Dieterich 33-26. SSW took an 18-12 opening quarter lead. Dieterich came back with a 10-2 third period to lead 22-20 going into the final quarter. Stew-Stras/Windsor got back on track with a 13-4 run.

Vonderheide tallied 12 and Kinkelaar nine for the winners. Dieterich was led by C. Brummer with 10 and L. Brummer with eight.

In the consolation championship, South Central beat Stew-Stras/Windsor 48-16. South Central jumped out to a 19-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Arnold tallied 18, Garrett 14 and Webster 10 for the winners.

Wernsing led SSW with six.

The third place game went to Sigel St. Michael over Altamont. No score was reported.

At Effingham

Effingham remained unbeaten with a 37-13 win over Salem Franklin Park in seventh-grade play Friday.

The Mustangs ripped off to a 19-4 first quarter lead and never looked back in improving to 9-0. Beck tallied 10 and Mapes eight for the winners.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham claimed a 32-10 victory. Sowell tallied nine and Schaefer eight for the Mustangs who improve to 7-2.

At Taylorville

Teutopolis claimed three of four victories during Saturday action when the Wooden Shoes faced Taylorville and Decatur Robertson.

T-town lost the seventh-place game against Taylorville 26-19. Taylorville held a 15-11 halftime lead then had a 6-2 third period. T-town was led by Katie Kremer with six points.

In eighth-grade action, T-town was a 34-23 winners. The Shoes led 16-8 at halftime and never looked back.

Grace Tegeler scored 14 and Isabella Hardiek added 12 for the Shoes.

T-town then faced Decatur Robertson and captured a 35-8 in seventh-grade play. T-town held a 16-2 opening half lead. Emily Konkel tallied 18 for the Shoes. T-town improves to 9-2.

In eighth-grade play, T-town tallied a 27-23 win over Robertson. T-town held a 16-9 first half lead but Robertson came back only to fall short.

Isabella Hardiek scored nine and Macy Probst eight for the Shoes who improve to 10-1.

At Marshall

Jasper County fell to Marshall in the Conference Tournament Saturday, 20-16.

The two teams were tied at 6-6 after the opening quarter and Jasper County moved ahead 10-7 at halftime. But Marshall came back with a 13-6 second half run.

Emma Oldham led Jasper County with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Alexis Hetzer added 13 rebounds.
