Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Brownstown/St. Elmo will square off for the championship of the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament.

CHBC opened Thursday evening play by edging Altamont 26-24. Altamont held a 6-4 opening quarter lead but CHBC came back to lead 13-10 at halftime. CHBC continued to outscore Altamont with an 11-9 third period to lead 24-19 going into the final quarter. Altamont had a 5-2 final period run only to fall short.

Jady Wojcik tallied 16 points for the winners. Altamont was led by Nelson with 12 points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo downed Sigel St.Michael, no score was provided.

CHBC will face BSE at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for the championship. Altamont meets Sigel St. Michael at 10:15 for third place.

Action continues tonight with consolation bracket play. South Central meets North Clay at 6 while Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor takes on Dieterich at 7:15. The winners advance to the consolation championship Saturday at 9 a.m.

At Newton

Jasper County split victories with Palestine/Hutsonville in action Thursday.

In seventh-grade play, Palestine/Hutsonville edged Jasper County 28-27. Emma Oldham led Jasper County with 10 points.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County picked up a 34-30 victory. Sydney Dobbins, Rylea Borgic and Ava Kessler scored eight poitns each.
