Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Sigel St. Michael and Brownstown/St. Elmo picked up victories in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday.

CHBC defeated South Central 28-14. CHBC took a 15-11 opening half lead then had a 10-0 third period run.

Jady Wojcik tallied 15 to lead the winners. South Central was led by Jaylyn Michel with five.

In the second game, Sigel St. Michael defeated Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 23-6. The Sharpshooters had a 13-6 opening half lead and held SSW scoreless in the second half.

Bueker scored 12 for the winners.

In the third contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo downed Dieterich, no score provided.

Tonight's games will feature CHBC against Altamont at 6 followed by Sigel St. Michael meeting Brownstown/St. Elmo at 7:15. The tournament finals are scheduled for Saturday.

At Charleston

Effingham Junior High claimed both victories over Charleston Wednesday evening.

In the seventh-grade game, the Mustangs nabbed a 30-19 victory. Niebrugge tallied 13 for the winners who improve to 8-0.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham was a 40-11 winner and stands at 6-2. Sowell scored 16 and Althoff eight for the Mustangs.
