Effingham Junior High School tallied two victories over North Clay (Louisville) in girls basketball action Monday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 33-9 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Niebrugge tallied 10 while Beck added eight for the winners. North Clay was led by Holkenbrink with three points.

In the eighth-grade game, the Mustangs won 31-17. Effingham stepped out to a 13-2 opening quarter lead before the two teams played even the rest of the way.

Duncan led the way for Effingham with eight points. The Mustangs improve to 1-2.

North Clay was led by Ballard with five points.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony claimed two wins and suffered a loss against Altamont Monday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, Altamont picked up a 22-11 victory. Nelson tallied 11 for the winners. Emma Ashton and Lucy Fearday scored four each for the Bullpups.

In the sixth-grade game, St. Anthony was a 16-6 winner. Goeckner had four points.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony won 38-17. The Bullpups stepped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead. Clausius scored 14 for the winners while McManaway had 11 for Altamont.

At Sigel

Sigel St. Michael was a double winner in action against Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor Monday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, St. Michael trailed 14-11 at halftime but had a 20-7 second half. Bueker tallied 13 and Niebrugge 10 for the winners. Kinkelaar led SSW with nine. The squad drops to 0-5.

In eighth-grade play, the Sharpshooters won 27-10. Both teams went scoreless in the opening quarter before St. Michael took a 12-4 lead at halftime

Cremens scored 12 for the Sharpshooters. Hayes led Stew-Stras/Windsor with seven as the squad fell to 0-5.

Nokomis downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 36-16 in seventh-grade play Monday evening.

Nokomis led 22-7 at halftime and never looked back. CHBC was led by Jady Wojcik with 13 of the team's 16 points.

CHBC drops to 4-1 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, Nokomis was a 36-31 winner. CHBC led 21-20 at halftime before Nokomis had a 23-10 second half run.

CHBC was led by Tatyana Duckwitz with 11 and Gracie Heckert with 10. CHBC falls to 2-3.

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Mattoon in action Monday.

T-town won the seventh-grade game 14-6. The Wooden Shoes led 9-4 after three quarters and then had a five-point fourth.

Emily Konkel led the Shoes with 10 points as the squad improved to 3-0.

In eighth-grade action, T-town picked up a 38-21 win. T-town held a 16-9 halftime lead and had a 13-8 third period. Izzy Hardiek tallied 13 while Macy Probst added eight. The Shoes are 2-1.

Dieterich traveled to Oblong and nabbed two big scoring victories Monday evening.

Dieterich won the seventh-grade contest 24-2. Dieterich led only 4-2 at halftime then kicked it into high gear in the second half holding Oblong scoreless while racking up 20 points.

Kinnison and Niemerg tallied six points each to lead Dieterich.

In the eighth-grade contest, Dieterich tallied a 49-9 victory behind the scoring of Boerngen. Boerngen finished with 18 points, 10 in the third quarter 20-0 run. Also in double figures was Meinhart with 10.

At Toledo

Jasper County edged Cumberland 10-9 in seventh-grade action Monday.

Jasper County held a 4-0 first quarter lead then trailed Cumberland 7-6 at halftime and 9-8 after three quarters. Jasper County tallied the winning basket in the fourth period.

Emma Oldham had eight points, seven rebounds and a steal for the winners.

In the eighth-grade contest, Cumberland was an 11-10 winner. Emma Kidwell led Jasper County with five points.
