CHBC, North Clay Open Girls High School Basketball Season With Victory

BEECHER CITY -- Despite playing without Coach Carolyn Wendte, Cowden-HerrickBeecher City High School's girls basketball squad opened the season with a 50-14 varsity win over South Central Monday evening.

Wendte, who missed her first game ever as a coach, had arthroscopic back surgery Monday to fix two fractured discs she injured over the weekend. Wendte, however, will be right back at school today.

The junior varsity CHBC team played Ramsey since South Central does not have a junior varsity squad. CHBC won 40-37.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) opened the girls season with wins over Cisne. The Cardinals won the varsity contest 47-37.

North Clay edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead and led 23-16 at halftime. The Cardinals led 33-31 going into the final quarter then had a 14-6 run to pull out the victory.

Wyatt and Walker led the way with 13 points each. Cisne was led by Byars with 10.

In the junior varsity contest, North Clay won 23-15.

Neoga fell to Moweaqua Central A&M 91-36. A&M took a 22-9 opening quarter lead and led 46-16 at halftime. Adcock tallied 14 for the winners while Stringer led with 27. Neoga was led by J. Better with 18.

The game was the season-opener for both squads.
