St. Anthony Wins Own Tourney; Stew-Stras Takes Third

Stewardson-Strasburg Junior High School captured third place in the St. Anthony Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.

Stew-Stras fell to Pana Sacred Heart in the opener 40-34. Overbeck tallied 11 for Stew-Stras. St. Anthony was a 36-4 winner over Cumberland.

Stew-Stras then defeated Cumberland 41-18 to captured third place. Overbeck scored 13 and Moschenrose eight for the winners.

In the championship game, St. Anthony took on Pana Sacred Heart and claimed a 40-24 victory. St. Anthony led 18-11 at halftime and had a 22-13 second half run. Greene led the winners with 16 points.

St. Anthony had beaten Cumberland 36-4 to reach the title contest. Gibson tallied 11.

At Summversville

Teutopolis played in the Summersville Shootout. In the seventh-grade contest, T-town lost to Carbondale 48-32. Funneman led the Wooden Booties with 11 points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Teutopolis fell to Carbondale 47-43. Deters tallied 15 and Mette 12 for T-town.

Altamont handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a 32-22 loss in action Friday evening.

Altamont jumped out to a 14-1 opening quarter lead then held off a second half challenge. K. Pemberton tallied 10 for the winners and B. Runge added eight. St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Maxey with 10.
