Newton, Brownstown/St. Elmo, Cumberland and South Central claimed boys high school basketball victories Tuesday evening as the Class 1A and Class 2A schools see the regular season coming to an end this week before regionals open play Monday.
Newton 80, Casey-Westfield 79 (OT)
The Eagles pulled out this victory in overtime. Newton stepped out to a 27-12 opening quarter lead and led 43-25 at halftime. But that lead started dwindling away in the second half.
Casey-Westfield pulled within 56-44 after the third period then had a huge 21-9 final quarter to knot the score at 65-65 sending the game into overtime. The Warriors connected on nine field goals in the final period while Newton could connect on only three.
Mammoser found the range in the overtime period for the Eagles. He hit two field goals and was nine of 13 from the gratis stripe. He finished with 34 points. Also in double figures was Stone with 24.

Brownstown/St. Elmo took control early and held the momentum through the first three quarters with a 40-25 lead.
BSE was led by Landon Feezel, a 6-foot-5 junior, and Kyle Hardimon, a 6-foot-4 senior, with 16 points each. Also in double figures was Trey Pasley with 11. SEB improved to 13-13 on the season.

South Central 60, Sandoval 51
In a non-conference matchup, South Central scored 17 points in three different quarters to hand the Blackhawks a nine-point loss.
The Cougars scored 17 in the opening quarter and led 34-29 at halftime. Sandoval came back with a 14-9 third period to tie the score at 43-43 going into the final quarter. South Central got back on the 17 point track with a 17-8 run.
Three players hit double digits for the Cougars. Jon Arnold, a 6-foot-5 senior, led the way with 24 points while Drevonte Hill tallied 18 and Brett Harmeier added 10.

Cumberland bounced Martinsville in Little Okaw Valley, Southeast Division action Tuesday evening.
The Pirates leaped out to a 19-2 opening quarter lead and led 45-8 at halftime. Gunner McMechan tallied 25 for the winners while Brandon Shaon scored 14 and Trevor Beard 12.
Cumberland improved to 3-1 in the LOVC and 15-11 overall. Martinsville dropped to 0-3 in the conference, 1-24 overall.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg dropped a non-conference loss to Sullivan Tuesday and saw a four-game winning streak snapped.
WSS held a 16-14 opening quarter lead but the second quarter saw the Redskins put it together. Sullivan held the Hatchets to only one field goal in the period for a 36-22 halftime lead. Sullivan then had a 27-21 second half.
WSS's Tristan Warner tallied 13 while Nicholas Hutchinson added 11. The Hatchets drop to 13-11 on the season. Sullivan improved to 14-10.
