South Central to Honor Rick Simmons Tonight

The South Central School District plans to honor longtime teacher, coach and athletic director Rick Simmons at tonight's basketball game against Mulberry Grove.

Simmons is retiring at the end of the school year.

The ceremony will take place between the JV and varsity games about 7:30pm. 

Simmons was longtime South Central basketball coach Gary Shirley's assistant coach until Shirley's retirement, when Simmons was named varsity coach, serving as athletic director during that period of time.

The event had been planned as a surprise, but the cat is out of the bag, so that's the reason for the late notice today.
