Effingham Junior High School and North Clay (Louisville) split girls basketball wins Monday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest, 38-20. Effingham stepped out to a 12-3 first quarter lead and never looked back. Rueter, Dively and Armstrong had eight points each and the Mustangs improved to 2-1. North Clay was led by Lovett with 11.

In eighth-grade play, North Clay claimed a 21-18 victory. North Clay had a 11-5 opening half lead. Bailey trailed eight points for the winners. Effingham was led by Niebrugge with six as the Mustangs dropped to 0-3.

At Nokomis

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick downed host Nokomis in seventh-grade competition Monday 33-5 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Sydney Lorton tallied eight points and Madison Cherry had seven.

In the eighth-grade contest, BCCH won 39-26 and is now 2-2 on the season. Lauren Wojcik scored in double figures with 11 for the winners.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Mattoon and split victories in competition Monday evening.

Mattoon picked up the seventh-grade victory 20-12, outscoring T-town 14-5 in the second half. Kylie Haake had 11 points for the winners. T-town (1-1) was led by Carly Michels with eight.

In eighth-grade action, T-town won 30-13, taking an 18-5 opening half lead. Olivia Brumleve scored 13 for the winners. The Shoes are now 2-0 on the season.

At Teutopolis

At Sigel

Sigel St. Michael stepped out to a 17-3 opening half lead but Stewardson-Strasburg came back to pull within 21-16 at halftime. St. Michael outscored Stew-Stras 16-9 in the second half for the 37-25 win in seventh-grade play.

Bueker led St. Michael with 17 points. Hayes led Stew-Stras (1-3) with 11.

In eighth-grade competition, St. Michael claimed a 37-19 victory. St. Michael surged to a 16-0 opening quarter lead. McWhorter led the winners with 11 points. Reynolds led Stew-Stras (0-4) with eight.

Jasper County handily downed Cumberland in both games Monday.

Jasper County won the seventh-grade contest 28-4, leading 25-0 until the final quarter. Madison Blake tallied eight points for the winners.

In eighth-grade play, Jasper County led 21-1 at halftime and went on for a 37-4 win over Cumberland. Renae Russell scored eight points.
