ST. ELMO -- Effingham St. Anthony and St. Elmo/Brownstown advanced to the championship game of the Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Boys Basketball Regional with victories Monday evening.

St. Anthony opened with a 45-21 win over Altamont. The Bullpups were on both offensively and defensively in the opeing quarter. St. Anthony scored 16 points and held Altamont scoreless. St. Anthony went on for a 30-2 halftime lead.

Strullmeyer tallied nine points while Milleville added eight for the winners. Biggs led Altamont with 13.

In the second contest Monday, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Oblong 47-40. SEB took a 22-20 halftime lead and led by that same two-point score, 30-28, going into the final quarter then had a 17-12 run.

Philpot scored 15 and Karnes 14 for the winners.

St. Anthony will face St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for the regional championship.

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional

Effingham advanced to the championship of its own regional by downing Mattoon 41-35 Monday evening.

Mattoon held a 7-6 opening quarter lead before the Mustangs came back to lead 23-14 at halftime and 33-22 going into the final quarter. Mattoon came back with a 13-8 run but fell short.

Wolfe scored 18 while Lee added 10 for Effingham. Wolfe pulled down seven rebounds while Lee and Rich had four each. Jackson led in steals with four. The Mustangs are now 19-2 on the season.

In the second contest, Danville North Ridge defeated Danville South View 53-38.

Effingham will meet Danville North Ridge at 6 p.m. today for the regional championship.

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional

Class 8-1A Mulberry Grove Regional

Windsor was the lone area school to advance in this regional. Windsor defeated Stewardson-Strasburg 29-18 in the first contest Monday evening.

In the second game, Pana Sacred Heart downed Beecher City 69-18.

Windsor and Pana Sacred Heart will clash at 7:45 p.m. today for the right to advance to the regional championship game. In the opener tonight at 6:15, Mulberry Grove faces Sorento. The title game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Class 8-1A Palestine Regional

Sigel St. Michael will be competing for this regional championship. The Sharpshooters handed Martinsville a 45-14 loss Monday evening.

In the second game, Hutsonville downed Newton St. Thomas 39-12.

Sigel St. Michael meets Hutsonville at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional tite.

 

Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Red Hill (Bridgeport) and Robinson Nuttall will meet for the championship of this regional Thursday at 6 p.m.

Red Hill edged Casey-Westfield 47-44 in the opening game Monday evening. In the second contest, Robinson Nuttall defeated Jasper County 52-46.

 

Class 8-3A Shelbyville Moulton Regional

Blue Mound Meridian opened the evening by beating Arthur 51-37. The second contest went to Pana over Sullivan 30-17.

Blue Mound Meridian will now face Teutopolis at 6 p.m. today followed by Shelbyville Moulton against Pana at 7:15. The championship game is set for Thursday at 6 p.m.
