ODIN -- Effingham St. Anthony stepped out to a big opening quarter lead and went on to down Sandoval in a non-conference girls basketball contest Monday evening, 53-40.

The Bulldogs held a 13-4 opening quarter lead as four players scored. Sandoval's Kunick was the lone player to score with two baskets.

St. Anthony pushed into a 27-15 halftime lead and led 47-25 going into the final quarter. Megan Nuxoll got on a scoring spree in the third period, rattling off nine points after scoring two baskets in the first half.

Nuxoll finished with 15 to lead St. Anthony while Emily McDevitt and Hunter Niebrugge chipped in with nine points each. Nuxoll and Emma Richards pulled down five rebounds each. Nuxoll and McDevitt had three assists each.

Kunick led the Blackhawks with 16 points while Saddle added 15, nine of those points coming from three-point land.

The Bulldogs improve to 15-13 on the season. St. Anthony also won the junior varsity contest 38-26 and is now 8-5.

At Altamont

Neoga put this contest away early with a 22-6 opening quarter run and went on for a 67-45 National Trail Conference win over Altamont.

EC Thies led Neoga with 25 points while Jaycie Roy tallied 17 and Madison Butler added 13. Olivia Ott led Neoga in rebounds with 10. Roy had five steals and Butler eight assists.

Altamont was led by Duckwitz with 14 points, Goldstein with 10 and Biggs with 10.

Neoga improves to 5-0 in the conference, 23-3 overall and will host Dieterich Thursday in a Shoot for a Cure game.

Teutopolis fought back from a 14-6 opening quarter deficit to pull within 22-20 at halftime. But the Wooden Shoes couldn't overcome that deficit and went down to a 39-37 defeat at the hands of Breese Mater Dei.

The Shoes trailed Mater Dei 31-27 going into the final quarter and outscored Mater Dei only to fall short. Repking was the lone player in double figures for the Shoes with 10. Hartke added nine points and led in rebounds with six.

Newton's Richards tallied 23 points to lead the Eagles to a 53-30 Little Illini Conference victory over Palestine/Hutsonville.

The Eagles led 27-18 at halftime and had a 26-12 second half run. Richards banged home nine field goals, including three trifectas, and hit two of two at the line. The Eagles are now 4-4 in the conference, 16-11 overall.
