Wooden Shoes beat top-ranked Nashville, MTC Tourney Opens

NASHVILLE -- Teutopolis High School, ranked third in the latest basketball poll, edged top-ranked Nashville 46-42 in the second game of the Nashville Boys Invitational Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

T-town trailed Nashville 13-11 after the opening quarter but came back with a 15-6 run to lead 26-19 at halftime. Nashville came back in the third quarter to pull within 38-33 and outscored the Shoes 9-8 in the final period but T-town held on.

Hardiek and Brett Mette scored 12 points each to lead the winners. T-town improves to 16-2 on the season and will now face Breese Mater Dei at 6:30 p.m. today in the round robin meet followed by Mascoutah against Nashville at 8.

Midland Trail Conference Tournament

Two games were featured as the Midland Trail Conference Boys Tournament got underway Monday evening at the higher seeds gyms.

Wayne City outlasted North Clay (Lousiville), 63-56. In the second game, Grayville downed Clay City 72-58.

Tonight's games, all scheduled for 7:30, will be Wayne City at Woodlawn, Webber Township (Bluford) at Waltonville, Grayville at Odin and Sandoval at Cisne.
