Dieterich Beats Oblong, Girls High School Roundup

DIETERICH -- Dieterich High School ripped off to a 29-6 halftime lead and never looked back in a 57-36 non-conference girls basketball win over Oblong Monday evening.

The Movin' Maroons connected on 21 field goals and 14 free throws. Courtney Flach scored 31 points, hitting 14 field goals, including a three-pointer, and two of four at the line. Mallorie Vahling added 12 points, hitting only one field goal but was 10 of 13 at the line.

Vahling led in rebounds with 12 and assists with eight. Flach led in steals with five. Dieterich is now 8-4 overall.

Oblong was led by Emily Lockhart with 13 points.

At Salem

Teutopolis dropped a 42-36 loss to Salem Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes held a 9-7 first quarter lead and pushed that to 19-14 at halftime. The Wildcats then came back with a 12-9 third period run to trail 28-26. Salem's Watson knocked down four baskets and a free throw as the Wildcats outscored T-town 16-8 in the final quarter to pull out the victory.

Watson finished with 21 points to lead the winners.

T-town was led by Hardiek with 12 points. Bueker led in rebounds with four and steals with two.

Newton pushed ahead 13-4 after one quarter and went on for a 43-23 victory over Edwards County (Albion) Monday evening.

Kerner tallied 14 points for the winners while Hartrich added 11. The Eagles improve to 6-3 on the season.

At Neoga

Neoga played host to South Central in a National Trail Conference matchup and claimed a 68-45 victory.

The Indians stepped out to a 19-13 opening quarter lead then went on a tear with a 23-7 run. Butler scored 10 points in the run while Roy chipped in with six and Ott five.

Roy tallied 22 for the winners while Butler added 21 and Hotze 12.

South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 27 and Kelly Smith with 15.

"The girls battled all night but in the second quarter, Neoga pushed it up the court and outscored us 23-9," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "That was a big difference in the game. We stayed with them in the other quarters and rebounded much better. We will continue to work on things to get better."

South Central drops to 1-2 in the conference, 3-3 overall.
