DIETERICH -- The National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament got underway Wednesday evening.
Iin the opening contest, Sigel St. Michael claimed a 30-14 victory over Effingham Sacred Heart. St. Michael held the Shamrocks scoreless to take a 15-0 first quarter lead then held a 26-2 halftime tally.
M. McWhorter scored 16 for the winners while H. Bueker chipped in with nine. Saced Heart was led by K. Carie with six points.
Iin the second game, Brownstown/St. Elmo downed Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 31-22.
BSE edged ahead 5-4 in the opening quarter and held a 13-10 halftime lead. BSE then moved the contest into the win column with an 18-12 second half score.
C. Wilhour tallied 12 for the winners. Wocjik led BCCH with 16.
Tonight's games feature Altamont against Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor at 5:30 followed by Neoga facing Dieterich at 6:45 and in consolation bracket play, Sacred Heart taking on Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick at 8.
