St. Joe's Upsets #25 VCU To Capture A-10 Title
(Brooklyn, NY) -- Ronald Roberts Jr. recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds as Saint Joseph's upset 25th-ranked VCU 65-61 to capture its first Atlantic 10 Tournament title since 1997. Halil Kanacevic chipped in with 11 points and 14 boards, while Langston Galloway scored a game-high 19 points for the fourth-seeded Hawks, who improved to 24-9 on the year. St. Joe's earned the 10th-seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament and will open up against UConn in the second round. Rob Brandenberg posted 17 points and Treveon Graham had 15 points and nine boards for the second-seeded Rams, who slipped to 26-and-8. VCU is the fifth-seed in the South Region and plays Stephen F. Austin in round two.
#8 Virginia Downs No. 6 Duke For ACC Title
(Greensboro, NC) -- Michael Brogdon dropped in a game-high 23 points as eighth-ranked Virginia defeated sixth-ranked Duke 72-63 to win the ACC Tournament title in Greensboro. It's Virginia's first tourney crown since 1976. Joe Harris had 15 points and Anthony Gill added 12 off the bench for the top-seeded Cavaliers, who improved to 28-6 on the season and earned the top-seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament. Jabari Parker posted 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the third-seeded Blue Devils, who fell to 26-8. Duke is the three-seed in the Midwest Region. Rodney Hood donated 13 points and Amile Jefferson scored 11 in the setback.
Gators Nip Wildcats For SEC Title
(Atlanta, GA) -- Patric Young posted 14 points and five rebounds to help the top-ranked Florida Gators drop Kentucky 61-60 in the SEC Tournament final from Atlanta. Florida has won 26 straight to move to 32-2. The Gators are the top-overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Michael Frazier the Second also had 14 points and five boards in the win. Aaron Harrison had a game-high 16 points for Kentucky, which dipped to 24-10. James Young scored 13 points in the loss.
Spartans Slam Wolverines For Big Ten Crown
(Indianapolis, IN) -- Adreian Payne had 18 points and nine rebounds to carry the Michigan State Spartans to a 69-55 win over Michigan in the final of the Big Ten Tournament. Branden Dawson and Gary Harris each scored 15 points for the Spartans, who improved to 26-8. MSU earned the four-seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament. Nik Stauskas tallied 17 points for Michigan, which dropped to 25-8. Derrick Walton Junior added 11 points in defeat. The Wolverines are the two-seed in the Midwest Region.
