Illini Sink No. 25 Iowa

(Iowa City, IA)  --  Jon Ekey hit a three-pointer with under half a second left to lift the Fighting Illini to a 66-63 win over the number-25 Hawkeyes in Iowa on Saturday.  He ended with 12 points and six rebounds off the bench for Illinois, which improved to 18-and-13 and 7-and-11 in the Big Ten to end the regular season.  Rayvonte Rice added 15 points, five rebounds and four steals in the win.  The Illini face Indiana on Thursday in the Big Ten Tournament.

 

Illinois Heads Into Big Ten Tournament

(Indianapolis, IN) -- Illinois is heading into the Big Ten Tournament as the ninth seed. The Fighting Illini upset Iowa on Saturday 66-63 to finish the regular season at 18-13 with a 7-11 conference mark. Illinois plays Indiana on Thursday in the first round from Indianapolis.

 

College Basketball Roundup

Northwestern is the 11th seed in the Big Ten Tournament and plays Iowa Thursday. Northern Illinois meets Bowling Green in the first round of the MAC Tournament tonight. DePaul faces Georgetown at the Big East Tournament Wednesday while Notre Dame plays Wake Forest in the ACC.

 

Shockers Enter NCAA Tourney Perfect

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Fred VanVleet tallied 22 points to help the second-ranked Shockers drop Indiana State 83-69 in the final of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.  The win advances Wichita State to the NCAA Tournament with a perfect 34-0 record.  They are the first team since UNLV in 1991 to enter March Madness undefeated.  This is the third straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Shockers, who made it to the Final Four as a nine-seed last season.  Justin Gant and Manny Arop each had 18 points in the loss.  Indiana State ends the regular season 23-10 and 12-6 in the MVC.


Terps Take Down Cavs

(College Park, MD)  --  The Terrapins closed their time in the ACC with a bang, defeating fifth-ranked Virginia 75-69 in overtime at the Comcast Center.  The Terps are headed to the Big Ten next season.  Seth Allen tallied 20 points for Maryland, which ends the regular season 17-and-14 and 9-and-9 in the ACC.  Dez Wells added 18 points in the win.  Anthony Gill posted 15 points for the Cavaliers, who close the regular season 25-and-6 and 16-and-2 in the conference.  London Perrantes added 14 points in the loss.


Buckeyes Beat No. 22 Spartans

(Columbus, OH)  --  LaQuinton Ross tallied 22 points and five rebounds to help the Buckeyes beat number-22 Michigan State 69-67 on Senior Day from Columbus.  Aaron Craft posted 12 points and seven assists for Ohio State, which ends the regular season 23-8 and 10-8 in the Big Ten.  Adreian Payne scored 23 points with eight rebounds for the Spartans, who close the regular season at 23-8 and 12-6 in the conference.  Gary Harris turned in 12 points and five boards in the loss.
