Girls Compete in Three-Point Competition

Effingham High School's Caitlin Kaufman is headed to the Class 3A State Girls Basketball Tournament in the Country Financial Three-Point Competition.

Kaufman advanced from the 3A Carbondale Sectional Thursday evening. Maddie Nekola of Mascoutah led the way with 12 free throws. Also qualifying, along with Kaufman, were Haley Berning of Waterloo and Britney Zipfel of Mascoutah.

The four will compete Thursday, March 6 at Redbird Arena in Bloomington/Normal.

 

Class 1A State Competition

Jaycie Roy of Neoga and Brooke Burns of Altamont, both freshmen, competed in the Country Financial Three-Point State competition in Class 1A Thursday at Redbird Arena in Bloomington/Normal.

Both failed to advance. Roy connected on two three-pointers and Burns hit six.

Advancing to the finals were Sydney McClintock of Glasford Illini Bluffs with seven, then six in a shoot-off, Amanda Cheek of Ullin Century with seven, then six in a shoot-off, Ayshia Mitchell of Galatia with eight and Hannah Varner of Fisher with eight.
