Cardinals To Play Redbirds In Final Spring Training Exhibition

(Memphis, TN) -- The St. Louis Cardinals will play the Memphis Redbirds in their final preseason game before the 2014 season begins. The Cards haven't faced their Triple-A affiliate since 2009. Cardinals executives are expected to iron out details of buying the Redbirds on Monday and finalize the sale by the end of the month.  Memphis has been St. Louis' Triple-A affiliate since 1998.


Cubs Hire Hinske As First Base Coach

(Chicago, IL  -- The Cubs are bringing in former third baseman and outfielder Eric Hinske to be the team's new first base coach. The 36-year-old Hinske hit .173 in 52 games for the Diamondbacks last season to cap off a 12-year playing career. The hiring of Hinske completes Rick Renteria's staff.

 

Former ChiSox Catcher Joins Boston

(Boston, MA) -- Former White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski is joining the World Series champs. The "Boston Herald" reports the veteran backstop has agreed to a one-year contract with the Red Sox.  Pierzynski spent last season with the Rangers and the previous eight in Chicago.
