Red Sox Thank St. Louis With Full-Page Ad

(St. Louis, MO) -- The Boston Red Sox are expressing their gratitude to the Cardinals for a great World Series. The Sox took out a full-page ad in Tuesday's "Post-Dispatch" to thank the Cards and the city for their warm Midwestern welcome from great baseball town to another.

The season is over, but the Cardinals are already making moves to push ahead. The Redbirds have cleared space by removing three players from the 40-man roster in outfielder Adron Chambers, first baseman Brock Peterson and catcher Rob Johnson.

The Cardinals are waiting for pitcher Chris Carpenter to make a decision about his future. GM John Mozeliak tells the "Post-Dispatch" that the 38-year-old could join the front office if he decides to retire. Carpenter missed all of 2013 due to injury.

 

Former Sox Hitting Coach Manto Hired By O's

Former White Sox hitting coach Jeff Manto has found new work. The Baltimore Orioles have hired Manto as their new minor league hitting coordinator. Manto was the only coach to be fired following Chicago's 99-loss campaign. He was replaced last week by Todd Steverson.

 

Mariners Tab McClendon As New Manager

(Seattle, WA) --  Lloyd McClendon is headed to Seattle. The Mariners will hire the Detroit Tigers hitting coach and former Pirates manager as the team's new skipper. The 54-year-old previously managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2001-05, posting a 336-446 record.
