Red Sox Take Game Five From Cards

(St. Louis, MO) -- Jon Lester outdueled Adam Wainwright again as the Red Sox took a 3-2 lead in the World Series beating the Cardinals, 3-1, at Busch Stadium. Lester allowed one run and struck out seven across seven-and-two-third innings to pick up his second win in the Fall Classic.  Koji Uehara nailed down his second save getting the final four outs. The offense was supplied by a David Ortiz RBI double in the first inning, plus a David Ross one-run double and Jacoby Ellsbury RBI single in the seventh. Adam Wainwright took his second loss of the series despite striking out 10 and allowing three runs in seven innings. Matt Holliday's home run in the fourth was the only run St. Louis would score. Boston tries to close out the series in Game Six at Fenway Park on Wednesday night.

The World Series now shifts back to Boston. Today is a travel day for the Cardinals and Red Sox, who will play Game Six of the best-of-seven series tomorrow night at Fenway Park. It's a rematch of Game Two, with Michael Wacha opposing John Lackey. If needed, Game Seven is Thursday.

White Sox To Announce Abreu Signing Today

(Chicago, IL)  --  The White Sox are expected to announce the signing of free-agent first baseman Jose Abreu today.  The club has called an 11 a.m. Central press conference at U.S. Cellular Field.  The 26-year-old Cuban defector will reportedly receive a six-year, $68-million contract.  The addition of Abreu could mean the end for longtime White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko in Chicago.  The 37-year-old is a free agent this offseason.
