STEWARDSON A'S IN CHAMPAIGN ST. THOMAS MORE TOURNAMENT

In the opening game of the Champaign St. Thomas More Round Robin Tournament at Henneman Field, Champaign Senior Legion Post #24 downed Moultrie-Douglas County Senior Legion 9-3. Moultrie-Douglas then blanked Stewardson A's 5-0. Moultrie-Douglas had a 3-0 second inning then tacked on two more runs in the third. Andrew Sparrow picked up the win with eight strikeouts. Garrett Overbeck suffered the loss with seven strikeouts.

The Stewardson A's then fell to Champaign Senior Legion 16-6 in five innings via the 10-run rule. Champaign took a 9-3 opening inning lead. Both teams tallied three runs in the third. Champaign had one in the fourth and finished the game with three in the fifth.

SHELBY COUNTY LEGION SPLITS DOUBLEHEADERS

In a Saturday doubleheader, Mattoon Legion Post 88 downed Shelby County Legion Posts 289-611-725 in a doubleheader. Mattoon won the opener 7-6, scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh. Luke Hatfield had three of Shelby County's seven hits and drove in four runs. Kyle Floyd had a hit and an RBI while Seth Kline had two hits and Nicholas Ferris one hit.

In the second game, Mattoon again edged Shelby County 6-5. Shelby County led 5-3 after six innings but Mattoon came back with three runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the victory. Shelby had six hits led by Hayden Cole with two hits and three RBI. Brady Walker had a hit, Hatfield a hit, Ferris a hit and Jake Baker a hit.

In Sunday games, Shelby County edged Paris Legion Post 21 1-0 in the opener behind only two hits. Ferris and J. Baker had a hit each. Mike Baker was the winning pitcher on a two-hitter with three walks and four strikeouts.

In the second contest, Shelby County was a 10-4 winner. Shelby County trailed Paris 4-3 until the bottom of the sixth then tallied seven runs. M. Baker had two hits and an RBI while Walker had a hit, Kyle Floyd a hit and three RBI, Hatfield a hit and an RBI, Ferris a hit, Colin Miller a hit and an RBI, Seth Kline two hits and an RBI, Cole a hit and two RBI and C. Vonderheide a hit and an RBI.
