Cardinals Crush Pirates In Game One Of NLDS

(St. Louis, MO) -- Carlos Beltran belted a three-run homer to jump start a seven-run third inning as the Cardinals crushed the Pirates 9-1 in Game One of the NLDS at Busch Stadium.  David Freese added a two-run single during the big inning for the Redbirds, who take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Adam Wainwright struck out nine over seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball for the win. Cardinals starter and winner Adam Wainwright says he didn't change anything on the mound despite the big lead.

Pedro Alvarez homered for the Bucs, who beat the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Wild Card Game on Tuesday. A.J. Burnett was tagged for seven runs in two-plus frames to suffer the loss.

Dodgers Bash Braves In NLDS Opener

(Atlanta, GA) -- Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw held the Braves to a run on three hits over seven innings with 12 strikeouts as L.A. hammered Atlanta 6-1 in Game One of the NLDS at Turner Field. Kershaw's strikeout total was the second-most in L.A. franchise postseason history behind Sandy Koufax's 15 in Game One of the 1963 World Series.  Kershaw says this is a special win for him personally.

Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run home run. The Dodgers took control early with two runs in both the second and third innings off losing pitcher Kris Medlen. Medlen allowed five runs on nine hits in four-plus innings. Chris Johnson drove in the only run of the game for the Braves.

Both ALDS Start Today

Both American League Division Series get underway today. The Tampa Bay Rays and Red Sox start their best-of-five ALDS in Boston.  Matt Moore takes on Jon Lester. The Detroit Tigers take on the Oakland Athletics in Game One of their series in the night cap. Max Scherzer will oppose Bartolo Colon.
