Teutopolis Trounces Staunton, 23-5

EDWARDSVILLE -- Teutopolis High School has added another big-scoring victory to its win column by trouncing Staunton 23-5 at the Metro Baseball Classic Wednesday.

The Wooden Shoes have opened the season by outscoring two opponents by a 41-5 count.

This time around, the Shoes edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had a 9-0 second inning. They ended the contest in four innings.

T-town finished with 16 hits led by Michael Niebrugge with two singles, a home run and four RBI, Carter Hoene with two singles, a double and two RBI, Jason Kreke with a single, home run and three RBI, Davin Worman with three singles and two RBI and Austin Borries with a double and two RBI.

Worman went 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on three hits, five walks while striking out four for the win. Hoene came on to throw 1.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits, no walks while striking out two.

The Shoes are back in action in the Metro Classic Friday against Columbia at 4 p.m.
