EHS Sweeps Apollo DH, Newton Edges St. A, Baseball Roundup

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School handed Taylorville an Apollo Conference baseball doubleheader loss Saturday.

The Hearts won the opener 16-4 in six innings. EHS edged out to a 3-2 opening inning lead and put together a six-run second. Camden Raddatz drove in four runs on a single and a home run. Raddatz homered to centerfield scoring three runs.

The Hearts got on the board in the top of the first inning after Raddatz hit into a fielder's choice. Taylorville committed an error and the Hearts scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run for a 3-0 lead. The Tornadoes came back in the bottom of the frame with two runs. 

But EHS put together six more runs in the second on five hits. Raddatz homered to centerfield, scoring three runs and the lead went to 9-2.

EHS finished with 11 hits led by Raddatz with a single, home run and four RBI, Colton Webb had a double, home run and two RBI. Braxton Lewis finished with three singles and two RBI, Jude Traub a single and double, Kaiden Nichols with a single and two RBI and Spencer Fox with two RBI.

Carter Braddy earned the pitching win, going five innings allowing four runs on four hits, six walks and striking out eight.

In the second contest, the Hearts, once again, got out to a first inning lead, this time 2-0. Both teams tallied single runs in the second. The Hearts then put together a run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

The Hearts had 11 hits in the contest, led by Raddatz with a single, double, home and four RBI, Kaden Koeberlein with a single and double, Nichols with two singles and two RBI and Fox with a double and an RBI.

Raddatz also picked up the pitching victory, going 4.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits, two walks and striking out six.

In junior varsity action, Effingham blanked the Tornadoes, 10-0 in five innings in the opener. The Hearts had nine hits led by Andrew Wagoner with three singles and three RBI, Will Hecht with a double and Wade Bushur, Keegan Koester and Andrew Leonard with a single and an RBI each.

Bushur was the winner on the mound. He went five innings, allowing no runs on two hits, five walks and striking out seven.

In the second contest, the two teams played to a 6-6 tie in seven innings.

Wyatt Hayes had two singles, a triple and four RBI while Wagoner added two singles.

Hecht went five innings to earn the win. He allowed six runs on five hits, four walks and struck out one.

In a Friday contest, the Hearts blanked Flora, 8-0 in varsity action. EHS ran out to a 4-0 opening inning lead as Spencer Fox singled, scoring one run and Braxton Lewis homered to left field, scoring three runs.

Raddatz again went on an offensive tear driving in four runs on two hits. Raddatz hit a home run to left field in the fourth, scoring three runs and hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth, inning, scoring the other run.

Raddatz finished with a double, home run and four RBI, Lewis a home run and three RBI, Nichols three singles and Koeberlein two singles. Fox added a single and an RBI.

In a junior varsity game Friday, Effingham was a 2-0 winner over Altamont.

The Hearts had eight hits led by Andrew Wagoner with two singles and an RBI, Jacob Warner with two singles and Brayden Tucker with a single and an RBI.

Warner was the winning pitcher. He went 5.2 innings allowing no runs on five hits, two walks and striking out five.

At Effingham

Newton scored a single run in the first and a single run in the seventh for a 2-1 victory over Effingham St. Anthony Saturday.

The Eagles banged out nine hits led by David Ferguson with four of those hits that included three singles and a double. Drake Wolf added a single, double and two RBI and Payton Harris, 2 singles.

Carson Barthelme went 6.1 innings to earn the win. He allowed one run on two hits, three walks and struck out three.

St. Anthony had two hits, a double by Brock Fearday and a single by Brady Hatton.

At Vandalia

Dieterich edged Vandalia by a 9-8 count Saturday.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead. Vandalia moved into a 5-2 lead in the third. Dieterich fought back with a run in the fourth but the Vandals had single runs in the fifth and sixth to lead 6-3.

Then here came Dieterich. The Maroons tallied four in the top of the seventh to knot the score at 7-7. Dieterich then tallied two in the top of the ninth. Vandalia came back with a single run but couldn't make up the other run to tie.

Dieterich had eight hits led by Gavin Meinhart with two singles, a double and an RBI while Jaxon Funneman and Lucas Westendorf had a double each. Carson Baxter added a single and two RBI while Justin Boerngen put together a single and an RBI.

At Arcola

Altamont captured a doubleheader against Arcola in Saturday competition.

In the opener, Arcola edged out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Altamont tied in the second then moved ahead with a run in the third and tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh for the 5-3 victory.

Ethan Robbins had two singles and drove in two runs while Dillan Elam had two singles and one RBI. Kaidyn Miller added a double.

Kade Milleville went all seven innings on the mound. He gave up three runs on six hits, two walks while striking out 11.

The Indians then claimed the second contest, 5-2. Altamont scored two in the second and two in the third and finished with one in the seventh.

Altamont had seven hits led by Clayton Arnold with two singles and an RBI and Eli Miller, K. Miller and Milleville with a single and an RBI each.

Elam was the winner, going six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, two walks and striking out 11.

In a Friday contest, Altamont handed Dieterich an 11-4 loss.

Dieterich moved into a 4-2 opening inning lead. Altamont tied in the third, then scored three in the fourth and four in the sixth for the win.

Altamont had 11 hits. led by Keegan Schultz with two singles, a double and two RBI, Kaidyn Miller with three singles and four RBI, Ethan Robbins two singles and two RBI, Kaden Davis two singles and Zane Miller a double and an RBI.

Dieterich had five hits, all singles. Andrew Hall and Gavin Meinhart had a single and an RBI each.

South Central traveled to Father McGivney and fell to the hometanders by an 11-1 count in six innings Friday.

Father McGivney finished with eight hits and was aided by 10 walks.

South Central had six hits led by Callaway Smith with three singles. Max Magnus had an RBI.

Teutopolis competed in the Edwardsville Tiger Classic Tournament Saturday finishing with a 1-2 record.

The Wooden Shoes took a 5-1 victory over host Edwardsville its opening game.

The score was knotted at 1-1 in the third inning. T-town then tallied two in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Davin Worman hit a home run and had two RBI while Garrett Gaddis had a double and an RBI. Mitch Koester finished with an RBI and Devin Kreke had two singles.

Austin Borries went five innings, allowing one run on one hit, three walks while striking out seven.

The second game went to Glenwood over Teutopolis 10-6. Glenwood took a 2-0 opening inning lead and led 7-5 after five innings. Glenwood then tallied a run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

T-town had nine hits led by Koester with a single and solo home run while Mick Niebrugge added a solo shot. Worman added two singles, a double and an RBI while D. Kreke had a double. Conner Hoeslcher and Brett Kreke had a single and an RBI each.

In the final game for the Shoes, Highland came out a 7-2 winner.

Highland tallied two runs in the second and two more in the third before finishing out with three in the fourth. The Shoes tallied their runs in the sixth and seventh.

T-town had four hits led by Joey Niebrugge with a double and Conner Hoelscher with a single and an RBI.

Edwarsville finished with a 2-1 record as did Highland. T-town and Glenwood were at 1-2.

The Shoes are now 18-10 on the season while Highland is 23-2-1, Edwardsville 18-8 and Glenwood 21-4.

Neoga claimed an 8-4 victory over Vandalia in a Saturday contest.

Both teams scored a run in the second. Neoga then tallied one in the third and one in the fourth. The Vandals came back within 3-2 in the fifth but Neoga put the game away with a five-run seventh.

Neoga had six hits led by Trey Sheehan with two singles, a double and two RBI. Riley Durdel added a single and two RBI while Matt Propst had two RBI.

Micah Staszak was the winning pitcher. He went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, no walks while striking out five.
