Chicago, IL (Sports Network) -- The Baltimore Orioles made a move Tuesday to strengthen their rotation, acquiring Scott Feldman from the Chicago Cubs. The Orioles also  added catcher and Maryland native Steve Clevenger in return for pitchers Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop.

Feldman signed a one-year contract with the Cubs prior to this season. He made 15 starts over the first three months of the season, going 7-6 with a 3.46 earned run average. The Orioles hope the right-hander can help a starting staff that ranks 27th in the majors with a 4.79 ERA. Feldman is familiar with the American League after pitching for Texas from 2005-12. For his career, the 30-year-old is 46-50 with a 4.66 ERA in 219 games (116 starts).

Clevenger, 27, has batted .199 in 79 games with the Cubs over the past three years. Arrieta has made five starts for Baltimore in 2013, compiling a 1-2 record with an unsightly 7.23  ERA. The 27-year-old righty is 20-25 with an unimpressive 5.46 ERA in 63 starts and six relief appearances for the Orioles, who plucked the TCU product in the fifth round of the 2007 draft. He made his major league debut three years later.

Strop, 28, has struggled mightily this season after a solid campaign in 2012. In 29 games, the right-handed reliever has a bloated 7.25 ERA. He was a reliable arm out of the bullpen last year with a 2.44 ERA.

Cubs Trade Pitcher Carlos Marmol

Oakland, CA (Sports  Network) -- The Chicago Cubs traded pitcher Carlos Marmol to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for pitcher Matt Guerrier and cash considerations on Tuesday. The 30-year-old Marmol had spent much of the past five seasons as Chicago's closer before  control issues earned him a demotion. The Cubs designated him for assignment June 25 and he walked 21 batters in 27 2/3 innings this season.

In his career, Marmol owns prolific strikeout numbers with 703 in 542 1/3 innings to go with a 3.50 earned run average in 483 games, all with the Cubs. He limited batters to a .185 average against throughout his in the majors. In 2010, Marmol picked up career-bests with 38 saves and 138 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings, He also had a 2.55 ERA.

The Dodgers had designated the 34-year-old Guerrier for assignment on Sunday. This  season, the  righty had  a  4.80 ERA in 30 innings  with the Dodgers. Guerrier is 25-33 with a 3.54 ERA 513 games -- including three starts -- over 10 seasons with the Minnesota Twins and Dodgers.
