Padres Walk Off On Phillies

(San Diego, CA  -- Kyle Blanks did it all in leading the Padres to a 4-3 walk-off victory over the Phillies at Petco Park. Blanks was 4-for-5 with three RBI and knocked in the game-winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning. The right fielder started San Diego's comeback with a two-run single in the ninth and later scored on a passed ball to tie the game at three. Joe Thatcher earned the win in relief for the Friars, who had lost four out of six. Cliff Lee pitched eight innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts in the start for Philadelphia, but Jonathan Papelbon came on to blow his fourth save in five chances. Justin De Fratus took the loss. Chase Utley hit a solo homer and Carlos Ruiz was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Phils, who have dropped four out of five.

 

Puig, Dodgers Beat Giants Late

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Yaisel Puig hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning to lead the Dodgers to a 3-1 win over the Giants at Dodger Stadium.  Puig finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. He is hitting .442 with seven home runs and 14 RBI in 20 games. Hanley Ramirez added an insurance run with a RBI ground out in the eighth. Reliever Paco Rodriguez grabbed the win and Kenley Jansen nailed down his fifth save as Los Angeles won its third straight game. Andres Torres supplied the Giants only run on a double. Madison Bumgarner fell to 7-5 allowing two earned runs, three total over seven innings. San Francisco has lost four of five and is at .500 for the first time since early April.

 

Brantley Powers Indians Past O's

(Baltimore, MD) -- Michael Brantley was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBI in leading the Indians to a 5-2 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards. Nick Swisher added an RBI single while former Oriole Mark Reynolds went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in his return to Baltimore. Ubaldo Jimenez pitched five-and-a-third innings of two-run ball to move to 6-and-4 while Vinnie Pestano recorded his fourth save. Cleveland has won five of its last six.  Zach Britton allowed three runs in five-plus innings for Baltimore and fell to 1-2. Matt Wieters and Nick Markakis each hit a solo homer for the O's, who have lost four straight.

 

Rays End Blue Jays' 11-Game Winning Streak

(St. Petersburg, FLA) -- Wil Myers' home run trumped everything on the excitement meter, but Jeremy Hellickson's outing might have been the best thing that happened for the Rays Monday night. A combination of the former and the latter added up to 4-1 Rays win that ended the Blue Jays' 11-game winning streak. The win moved the Rays to 40-37 and into sole possession of fourth place in the American League East as both the Rays and Blue Jays entered the day five games out of first place.
