(Chicago, IL) -- Matt Garza struck out eight in eight-plus innings to pace the Cubs to a 3-1 win over the Astros in Chicago. Garza only allowed four hits, including a solo homer to Chris Carter in the seventh inning, as he improved to 2-and-1. Kevin Gregg picked up his 11th save for Chicago, which snapped a two-game slide. Darwin Barney, Scott Hairston and Anthony Rizzo each hit a solo home run in the win. Dallas Keuchel struck out nine but gave up the three homers over six innings to dip to 4-and-4. Houston has alternated wins and losses the last six games.

(St. Louis, MO) -- Nelson Cruz was 2-for-5 with three RBI as the Rangers clipped the Cardinals 6-4 in St. Louis. He knocked in two with a ninth-inning single to put Texas up for good. Elvis Andrus added a run scored and two RBI for Texas, which has won three straight games. Neal Cotts picked up the win and Joe Nathan earned his 23rd save. Allen Craig knocked in a pair of runs for St. Louis, which had won two in-a-row. Trevor Rosenthal suffered the loss in relief.

(Kansas City, MO) -- Dayan Viciedo hit a three-run homer in a five-run third inning as the White Sox cruised to a 9-1 victory over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Alejandro De Aza added a two-run homer for Chicago, which had lost seven of its previous eight. Hector Santiago pitched eight innings of one-run ball to move to 3-and-5. Eric Hosmer hit a solo homer to account for Kansas City's lone run. Jeremy Guthrie was rocked for six runs in two-and-a-third innings for the Royals, who have lost three in-a-row.
