T-town Falls, Altamont Lutheran Advances In Jr. High State Baseball Tourneys

The Wooden Shoes had the unpleasant task of taking on Pleasant Plains, the eventual state champion, in the first game and fell 14-1 in four innings. Pleasant Plains held a 4-0 first inning lead then had a five-run second. T-town scored its run in the fourth.
Pleasant Plains finished with 11 hits in the contest and collective players had 12 RBI. Kreston Shultz, Greyson Dodd and Owen Metcalf finished with two singles each for the winners. Dodd had two RBI along with Landon Masenbacher.
T-town had three hits. Derek Drees had two singles and an RBI while Jake Probst added an RBI.
The Shoes finished with an 8-11 record on the season.
In other first round games, Staunton edged St. Joseph 2-0, Braidwood Reed-Custer won big over Mossville 10-0 and Washington downed Sidell Salt Fork 4-2,
In the semifinals, Pleasant Plains pounded Staunton 14-1 behind another big hitting attack with 12 hits. Washington edged Braidwood-Reed-Custer 12-11.
In the third place contest, Staunton downed Braidwood-Reed-Custer 8-4 and Pleasant Plains won the championship over Washington 9-4.

At Coulterville
Altamont Lutheran Interparish advanced in the Class S State Tournament at City Park in Coulterville Saturday.
Altamont Lutheran easily handled Shawnee, 11-1.
In other first round games, Buford-Farrington downed St.Johns Lutheran 9-1 while Our Lady of Mount Carmel blanked Olney St. Joe 13-0. St. Peter and Paul Catholic won over Crab Orchard Elementary 3-1.
In Tuesday play, Buford-Farrington Co-op will meet Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 1 p.m. while Altamont Lutheran will square off against St. Peter and Paul Catholic at 3.
The winners advance to the championship game Thursday while the losers will meet for third place.
