Effingham Beats Newton, Shelby County Nabs Doubleheader

Effingham Post 120 Junior American Legion baseball squad posted a 12-5 victory over Newton Thursday evening.
Effingham had 10 hits in the contest with Hayes leading the way with a single, triple and two RBI, Daugherty with a single, double and an RBI and Buhrman with a double.
Newton was led by Lidy with a single, double and an RBI.
Barnes picked up the four-hit pitching win, allowing two walks and striking out 11.

Shelby County Posts 289/611/725 handed Effingham St. Anthony two losses in doubleheader action Thursday.
Shelby County won 3-0, scoring single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings. Shelby County had five hits led by Hayden Cole with a single and double, Andrew Hawkins with a double and two RBI and Michael Baker with a double.
St. Anthony was led by Alex Hoelscher and Will Clausius with a single each.
In the second contest, Shelby County won 12-2 behind nine hits. Christian Vonderheide had a single, double and three RBI, Jake Keown a single, double and an RBI, Gunner Thies a single, home run and two RBI and Cole a home run and two RBI.
St. Anthony had three hits, all singles by Neil Ritz, Hoelscher and Kyle Bourgeois.
