Effingham, Teutopolis Split Legion Victories

Effingham Post 120 and Teutopolis Post 924 split a doubleheader Tuesday evening. Effingham claimed the opener 8-2 while Teutopolis came back for the nightcap victory 5-3.
In the opener, Devin Mayfield was the winning pitcher and also aided his own cause as he went two-for-three from the plate. Mayfield scattered seven hits across seven innings. He also had a single, double and drove in two runs.
Teutopolis struck early with a run in the first. Jordan Bloemer had a single that drove in the opening frame run and led Teutopolis as he added a triple.
But Effingham came back with five runs in the second as Mayfield gave Post 120 the lead with a double that drove in two runs. Nate McDonald had another RBI and Drew Levitt had a two-run double. From that point on, Effingham owned the game, scoring a run in the fourth and two in the fifth. Teutopolis came back with a run in the top of the seventh.
In the second contest, Teutopolis stepped out to the early lead in the 5-3 vicctory. Teutopolis opened with two runs in the first then tacked on a single run in the second and finished out with runs in the fourth and fifth.
Effingham outhit Teutopolis 9-4 but committed four errors in the contest.
Effingham Post 120 drops to 4-5 on the season while Teutopolis Post 924 improved to 6-2.
