Effingham Post 120 Downs Macon County, Falls To Shelby County

Effingham Post 120 Seniors captured a twinbill over Macon County Saturday. Effingham won the opener 8-3 and came back with a 7-3 second game victory.

In the opener, Effingham took a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back despite being outhit 9-6. Carter Hayes led the way for Effingham with a double, home run and two RBI. Preston Walker and Nate McDonald had a double each. Walker had one RBI while McDonald had two. Alec Quandt picked up the pitching win.

In the second contest, Effingham again was outhit, this time 10-5 but captured a 7-3 victory. Efifngham broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth with two runs then tacked on two more in the sixth.

At Windsor

Effingham Post 120 fell in a doubleheader against Shelby County Posts 289/611/725 Sunday.

In the opening game, Effingham lost 10-0 in six innings. Christian Vonderheide pitched a three-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts. Shelby County had 11 hits in the contest. Andrew Hawkins had three singles and drove in two runs for the winners while Gunner Theis had a single, home run and two  RBI, Luke Hatfield a single and double and AJ Miller a single, double and two RBI.

Effingham was led by Alec Quandt and Tanner Traub with a double each.

In the second game, Shelby County was a 6-3 winner. Shelby County led 2-0 until the top of the fifth when Effingham scored a run. But Shelby County came back in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs.

Effingham had eight hits led by Nate McDonald with a single and double and Alec Quandt with three singles and two RBI. Shelby County was led by Vonderheide with two singles and an RBI and Theis and Luke McDonnell with a double each.
