The Rangers need pitchers, and they may find a new lefty in Teutopolis' own Derek Thompson, who was drafted by Texas in the 12th round, the 370th overall pick.  Thompson has since signed with the Rangers.

Thompson's no stranger to the draft, as he went to the White Sox in the 13th round last year, the 411th overall pick in 2012.

Thompson attends John A. Logan College, and was recruited as a left-handed pitcher. He also plays outfield for the Volunteers. In his Freshman year, he shined on the mound, going 8-2 with a 1.92 ERA and four shutouts. Thompson also struck out 103 and walked just 29 batters in the season.

Derek is the son of Jeff and Laurie Thompson of Teutopolis.  Laurie said Monday morning that Derek signed Sunday with the Rangers.  He'll be assigned either to the Rangers' Rookie League team in Spokane, Washington, or will go to Arizona for instructional league action.

Below is an audio interview Greg Sapp conducted with Derek Wednesday morning, regarding the draft...
