The Cardinals (49-12) earned their third NCAA Super Regional berth in the last seven seasons by winning the Louisville Regional last weekend at Jim Patterson Stadium. UofL swept through the double-elimination bracket with wins over Bowling Green, Miami (Fla.) and Oklahoma State. Vanderbilt (54-10) earned the opportunity to host Louisville in a Super Regional with its 7-1 victory over Georgia Tech in Monday night’s winner-take-all title game in Nashville. After gaining wins over East Tennessee and Illinois to open the Nashville Regional, the Commodores lost 5-0 to the Yellow Jackets on Sunday night setting up Monday’s rematch.
The 2013 NCAA Super Regional at Hawkins Field will mark the third time in the last five seasons Louisville and Vanderbilt have met in the postseason. In 2009, the Cardinals defeated the Commodores 5-3 in the title game of the NCAA Regional in Louisville, while a year later, VU earned a 3-2 victory in 10 innings over UofL to win the Louisville Regional rematch.
