Cards Crush D'backs

(St. Louis, MO -- Carlos Beltran went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI as the Cardinals crushed the Diamondbacks 7-1 in the opener of a four-game series at Busch Stadium. Yadier Molina, who was suspended Monday one game and fined by Major League Baseball for his actions in Sunday's game, went 2-for-4 with a solo shot and two RBI. Molina was allowed to play as he appeals the penalties. Lance Lynn struck out six over seven innings of one-run ball as he upped his record to 8-1. The Cards have won 10 of their last 13. Paul Goldschmidt plated his NL-leading 47th run of the year for Arizona, which fell to 2-3 on its rain-shortened eight-game road trip.  Trevor Cahill was tagged for five runs in five frames as he slipped to 3-6 with the loss.

M's Double Up White Sox

(Seattle, WA) -- Raul Ibanez belted a two-run homer to back a solid outing from Joe Saunders, as the Mariners doubled up the White Sox 4-2 in the opener of a three-game series at Safeco Field. Saunders gave up just one run over six-and-a-third innings as he improved to 4-5. Tom Wilhelmsen gave up a run in the ninth but held on for his 13th save. Jesus Sucre and Kendrys Morales also plated a run each for the M's, who have won three-of-five. Jeff Keppinger and Adam Dunn both had an RBI for Chicago, which suffered its seventh straight loss. John Danks allowed four runs, three earned, in six frames as he fell to 0-2.

Brown Powers Phillies Past Marlins

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Domonic Brown hit his National League-leading 17th homer of the year to power the Phillies in a 7-2 win over the Marlins. Brown finished 3-for-4 with the two-run bomb while Delmon Young and Erik Kratz each poked solo shots for Philadelphia.  Brown has nine home runs in the past 10 games. Kyle Kendrick went the distance, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts to improve to 6-3.  The Phils have won two straight since a three-game slide. Derek Dietrich and Marcell Ozuna had back-to-back RBI singles in the third for Miami. Tom Koehler allowed five runs, four earned, over five frames to fall to 0-4. The Fish saw a three-game winning streak end.

Braves Blast Pirates

(Atlanta, GA) -- Freddie Freeman, Brian McCann and Jason Heyward each hit two-run home runs to lead the Braves to a 7-2 win over the Pirates. The blasts and Kris Medlen's pitching were enough for Atlanta to win its fourth game in the past five.  Medlen surrendered an unearned run over seven innings and struck out six for just his second win of the season. Gabby Sanchez and Clint Barmes drove in Pittsburgh's two runs in the loss. A.J. Burnett gave up six runs on eight hits over five innings to drop to 3-6.

Reds Blank Rockies

(Cincinnati, OH)  -- Bronson Arroyo tossed eight-shutout innings to help the Reds blank the Rockeis, 3-0, in the opener of a three-game set. Arroyo moved to 6-and-5 strking out three, walking none and allowing four hits. Aroldis Chapman closed out the game fanning three in the ninth for his 15th save. Jay Bruce hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to cap a 3-for-4 night with two runs scored and two RBI.  Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood left the game in the top of the fifth inning with right triceps soreness. Chatwood took the loss despite allowing just one run in four-plus innings. Carlos Gonzalez had two hits.

Teixeira's Slam Leads Yankees Past Indians

(Bronx, NY) -- Mark Teixeira smacked a grand slam and long-time Indian Travis Hafner added a solo shot as the Yankees topped the Indians 7-4 in the opener of a three-game set at Yankee Stadium. Brett Gardner hit a go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning for New York, which won for just the second time in nine games. Shawn Kelley picked up the win in relief and Mariano Rivera closed it out for his 20th save.  Carlos Santana hit a two-run double and Mike Aviles and Nick Swisher also plated a run each for the Tribe, which has dropped three-of-four. Justin Masterson was rocked for seven runs in six-and-a-third frames as he fell to 8-4. Asdrubal Cabrera left in the top of the fifth inning with a right hip injury.

Astros Complete Sweep Of Angels

(Anaheim, CA) -- Erik Bedard fired seven innings of one-run ball to power the Astros to a 2-1 win over the Angels, completing a four-game sweep in Anaheim  Bedard surrendered five hits and a walk while striking out two to improve to 1-and-2. Chris Carter hit a solo homer in the fifth before Brandon Barnes lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Jose Veras locked down his 11th save for Houston, which has won six straight overall. Joe Blanton pitched eight innings of two-run ball while striking out 11 but fell to 1-9 with the loss. Mike Trout's sac-fly in the third inning gave Los Angeles its only run of the game.

A's Bash Brewers

(Milwaukee, WI) -- John Jaso's two-run single highlighted a six-run fifth inning as the Athletics powered past the Brewers, 10-2. Jaso ended up going 3-for-6 while Coco Crisp and Brandon Moss each clubbed solo homers for Oakland. Tommy Milone was 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate and pitched seven innings of two-run ball on the mound to improve to 6-5. The A's have won four straight and 10 of their last 11 overall.  Marco Estrada allowed five runs in four-plus innings before departing with a lower body injury. He took the loss to fall to 4-4. Rickie Weeks' two-run homer in the fifth gave Milwaukee its lone runs as the Crew dropped their eighth in ten games.
