Mets Avoid Sweep In St. Louis

(St. Louis, MO) -- Daniel Murphy went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as the Mets avoided a four-game sweep by the Cardinals with a 5-2 win at Busch Stadium.  David Wright had two hits and two RBI for New York, which snapped a six-game losing streak. Jonathon Niese tossed seven-and-a-third innings of two-run ball to improve his mark to 3-4. Bobby Parnell closed it out for his fourth save. Carlos Beltran went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Pete Kozma also plated a run for the Cards, who lost for just the third time in 15 games. Adam Wainwright struck out eight in six frames, but allowed four runs, three earned, to fall to 5-3 with the setback.

 

White Sox Rally Past Angels

(Anaheim, CA) -- The White Sox scored three runs in the eighth inning to drop the Angels 5-4 in the first of a four-game series in Anaheim. Alex Rios his a solo homer for Chicago, which has won three in-a-row. Jeff Keppinger knocked in two runs in the win. Matt Lindstrom picked up his second win in relief.  Addison Reed secured his 13th save. Dane De La Rosa allowed the three runs for the loss.  Albert Pujols hit a two-run shot for Los Angeles, which has lost four-of-five.  Howie Kendrick drove in the other two runs in defeat.

 

Rays Place Price On DL

(St. Petersburg, FL)  -- The Rays placed starter David Price on the 15-day disabled list with a left triceps strain. Price suffered the injury in Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox. The reigning AL Cy Young winner is headed to the D for the first time in his career.  Price is 1-4 with a 5.24 ERA in nine starts.
